What's your excuse?

My excuse inventory has tripled in the last nine weeks.

It's pretty easy to find all sorts of reasons to not get in some exercise in my day:
It's too cold/wet/slushy/dark outside and I have so much laundry/cleaning/blogging/dishes to do.  Besides, Ben is tired/cranky/hungry/gassy and so am I.

Life before Ben was a strict regimen of training schedules, running dates and recovery days.  I knew what to expect day-to-day so finding an excuse to not exercise was more difficult.  Don't get me wrong, there were always the days when I'd scroll through my excuse inventory and look for any reason not to go out the door.  But I always knew that I'd be much happier having completed some bit of exercise in my day.

If you want something badly enough, you'll get it done.  If it is a priority, it'll happen.
It's easy to blame baby for not being able to do x, y, or z.  Now, I'm not saying it's easy to get things done with a baby.  Days go by in seconds and months fly by in minutes.

I've found the key to getting it in is, first and foremost, making it a priority. There are other things that I have identified as enablers to getting whatever it is that makes mommy feel like an individual again--for me, it's getting out for a run.

The following enablers & motivators have helped me feel human again:
  • A supportive husband who understands that a happy mommy = a happy wife = a happy life
  • Friends and family willing to watch baby, if just for an hour (don't mistake this for "visit time".  As soon as the relief arrives, there should be skid marks from your runners heading out the door!)
  • A most wicked running/walking/all-terrain stroller
  • A breast pump (freedom can be yours for $199.00)
  • An upcoming trip to Mexico where I'll be donning a two-piece
  • Drive
Because...

So, what's your excuse for not getting out there?

Good for you kvk!! No excuses needed when you are as kick ass as you are!!
Don't worry, eventually your kids are the reason you get out to train...love them to death, but sometimes mile repeats is more appealing than cleaning up the destruction they leave in their path!!
